Overview

The CardPointe Mobile device (ID TECH VP3300) allows you to quickly and securely accept magnetic stripe (MSR) and chip (EMV) card payments with the CardPointe Mobile application.

Support for contactless (NFC) payments is coming soon.

The ID TECH VP3300 is only available for merchants processing on the First Data Rapid Connect platform.

This guide provides information for setting up, using, and troubleshooting your device.

Setting up Your Device

Setting up your CardPointe Mobile device is easy; just charge the device then pair it with the CardPointe Mobile app running on your phone or tablet.

Before you begin, ensure that you are running the latest version of the CardPointe Mobile application. 

Version 3.6 of the CardPointe Mobile iOS app is now available on the Apple App Store.

A new version of the CardPointe Mobile Android app is coming soon.

Charging the Device

The device ships partially-charged and should be fully-charged before use. To charge the device, connect the micro USB cable to a powered USB port or AC adapter. Charging times can vary based on the power output of the USB port, however, the device recharges fully in approximately 4-6 hours.

The bottom LED on the rear of the device indicates the battery status.

  • If the LED is solid red, the battery is charging.
  • If the LED flashes amber, the battery level is low. Charge the battery or connect the
    device to a power source.
  • If the LED stops flashing when connected to a power source, the battery is fully-charged.

Pairing the Device

Once the device is charged and ready for use, do the following to pair it with the CardPointe Mobile app running on your phone or tablet:

  1. Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or tablet, and that no other devices are currently connected.
  2. Launch the CardPointe Mobile app, and log on.
  3. Tap the menu icon in the top-left corner, then tap Settings.
  4. On the Settings menu, under Terminal Settings, tap Swiper.
  5. On the Swiper Connection Settings menu, tap VP3300.
    The CardPointe Mobile app begins searching for available devices.
  6. On the CardPointe Mobile device, press and hold the power button for three seconds to enter pairing mode.
    When the app locates the device, it is displayed under Available Swipers as IDTECH-VP3300-xxxxx, where xxxxx is the last 5 digits of the device's serial number, found on the label on the bottom of the device.
  7. Tap the CardPointe Mobile device name.
    The Bluetooth status LED (the top LED on the rear of the device) flashes quickly to indicate that the device is paired and connected.
    In the CardPointe Mobile app, a green dot next to the device's name indicates that it is successfully paired.

Using Your Device

Accepting payments with the CardPointe Mobile device is simple. 

process a credit or debit payment with the CardPointe Mobile device, do the following:

  1. On the CardPointe Mobile app, open the Virtual Terminal or Register
  2. Select the Credit tender type.
  3. The app attempts to connect to the CardPointe Mobile device specified on the Settings > Hardware > Swiper menu.
    The app displays "Searching" while attempting to connect to the CardPointe Mobile device. If the app cannot connect to the device, ensure that the device is powered on and paired with the app.
  4. When prompted, insert or swipe the customer's card.

    The app displays the captured payment information.
  5. Optionally, select the Save Profile option to save the customer's payment information to a profile for future purchases.
  6. Tap Process Payment to process the payment using the captured payment information.

Device Pairing Issues

If you are unable to pair the device with your app, ensure that your phone or tablet does not have any active Bluetooth connections, and that no devices (for example, headphones) are connected to the auxiliary jack or Lightning port.

Additionally, ensure that you are attempting to pair the device from the app, not from your phone or tablet's Bluetooth menu.

Identifying a Device

If you have multiple devices in use, you might need to determine which device you are trying to pair with your app. When attempting to pair with the device, it broadcasts as "IDTECH-VP3300-#####" where ##### is the last five digits of the serial number located on a label on the bottom of the device.

Waking up and Reconnecting the Device

To extend battery life, the device enters standby mode after 20 seconds of inactivity. To wake the device, press the power button on the side of the device. You should not need to pair the device with your phone or tablet; it should reconnect automatically in approximately 15 to 30 seconds.

Understanding the LED Indicators

Three LEDs on the rear of the device indicate various statuses.

  • The top LED indicates the Bluetooth status.
    • If the LED is off, Bluetooth is in sleep mode.
    • If the LED flashes at normal duration speed, Bluetooth is on stand-by.
    • If the LED flashes at short duration speed, Bluetooth is paired and connected.

  • The middle LED indicates that the device is currently processing a payment.

  • The bottom LED indicates the battery status.
    • If the LED is solid red, the battery is charging.
    • If the LED flashes amber, the battery level is low. Charge the battery or connect the
      device to a power source.
    • If the LED stops flashing when connected to a power source, the battery is fully-charged.
